COMMUNITY PROJECTS

Workshops and Ateliers are available for everyone in the community in order to develop new interests. These workshops vary each year according to the offers of trained teachers and the interest in the subject’s show by the people.
Tapestry, Dancing, Karate, Gymnastics, Dressmaking, Guitar, Violin, Banjo, Flute, Accordion, Gilding, Teatre, Painting, Photography, Jeweller’s Putty, Drums, Theatre, Piano, etc.
The feeling that we are all part of a community is also built up through festive and social occasions. An annual fair is held which engages many people, organisms and institutions. Football championships, Book fair, Concerts, recitals, debates are all small pieces that help put into motion the “engine” that is the Centre.
The Centre is always open and heedful to change. It takes constant interest in responding to the needs and interests of community, and so is almost a mirror of the community itself. The Community Centre does not wish to substitute the people, but it tries to interest them to organise projects with specific aims. By strengthening neighbourly relations it collaborates with all the other private or public institutions in the area. It shares experiences with national and international partners participating in international projects.
Father Aleixo idealised this Centre. Slowly but surely he consolidate the web of professionals, volunteers and collaborators who have made the Centre a true network of community solidarity.
This brings to mind the truth of the poem:
“Dreams command life
And when a man dreams
The world jumps and advances
Like a coloured ball in the hands of a child…”
